An Analysis of Robert Frosts Once by the Pacific Essay

An Analysis of Robert Frosts Once by the Pacific Most readers are familiar with the poetry of Robert Frost, but they may not be familiar with his poem Once by the Pacific. This poem stands out from most of his popular poems, which frequently relate to rural New England life. Many critics have thus commented that his works are too simple. Once by the Pacific, however, seems to challenge this opinion, as it is one of Frosts more difficult poems to interpret. Although this poem also is connected with nature, the theme is more universal in that it could be related to Armageddon, or the end of the world. Even though this theme may seem simple, it is really complex because we do not know how Frost could possibly†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, God promised in Genesis 9:15 that never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. It seems that Frost portrays nature as having its own plan, as he writes with nature in the active voice. Also, why does Frost speak of this in the past tense? Perhaps Frost was thinking back to the Great Flood and painting a picture of someone by the shore before the waters started to rise. Thus, the age Frost writes about could be interpreted as the pre-Noah days on earth. Perhaps Frost is not implying that the earth was or will be destroyed by flood, even though it seems water is the destructive element. Frost could simply be creating a mood or atmosphere as a setting before the destruction to come. The low and hairy clouds create a gloomy feeling that Frost later describes as a night of dark intent. The intense images and confusing tense can fool the reader into thinking that this event has already taken place. A close examination of the tense and words reveal that the event has not occurred, but the strong images create a feeling of certainty that the end is beginning. Frost brings this intensity to a climax with the line someone had better be prepared for rage. Also, Frost speaks of an event much more powerful than flood with the last two lines, There would be more than ocean-water broken / Before Gods last Put out the Light wasShow MoreRelatedThe Poetry Of Robert Frost3137 Words   |  13 PagesThe purpose of this essay is to examine th e poetry of Robert Frost for references to themes of nature, religion, and humanity and how they relate to each other. The Kingdom of God and its Association with the Church

Question: Discuss about The Kingdom of God and its association with the Church. Answer: Introduction The "Liberal" or Spiritual Kingdom. During the elevation of liberal Christianity, the kingdom of God was considered as the control of God Into the hearts, and minds of people. One of the famous quotes that support this statement was from Luke 17:20-21 which says, "the kingdom of God is within you." The deep understanding of these words forms the basis of the teachings of Jesus Christ, and the Church that was founded by the Christ with the help of his followers. Mark also mentioned in one of his writings that when John had been sent to jail, Christ approached Galilee, delivering a sermon and spreading the gospel. The words said by Him were, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. In the New Testament, there is a lot of explanation has been given about the kingdom of God. It is clearly mentioned in the Old Testament that God is the judge of all" and the sentiment, and the message that all the humankind will finally be judged. This forms the important element of the teachings of Christians.[1] According to aNew Testament, it has been specified by Nicene Creed that the power and authority of judgment are in the hands of Jesus. The Kingdom Of God The Kingdom of God was the spiritual reign of God in the vigor of the receiver that ultimately resulted in an internal moral ethic. This ethic centered on the teachings of Jesus concerning the universal Fatherhood of God, the infinite and priceless value of the earthling soul, and the like commandment. The expression Kingdom of God has been used to express the lifestyle of Christians, a process of evangelization of the world and the rediscovery of charismatic presents and much other stuff. A variety of theological interpretation of the word Kingdom of God has thus appeared in its eschatological background, for example, apocalyptic or devastating and inaugurated eschatologys, yet no consent has emerged among scholars.[2] Over the centuries, a vast variety of theological interpretations of the word Kingdom of God has appeared. For example, in Catholic Teachings, the formal declaration Dominus Iesus (Item 5) [3]Mentions that the kingdom of God can never be separated either from the Chur ch or the Christ. If the kingdom is detached from the Christ, it will no longer be the kingdom of God which he discovered. There is a belief found in the Eastern Christians who were orthodox in their thoughts that the kingdom of God is existing within the boundaries of the Church and is exchanged to its believers as it involves with them. There is a lot of differentiation in the beliefs and thoughts of people about the kingdom of God. The people who believe the philosophy and teachings of Jesus, thinks that the kingdom is here, present on earth in the form of the Church or in the hearts of people, while some other thinks that the kingdom of God cannot be the inheritance of blood and flesh.[4] The Kingdom of God and its alliance with the Church God is a supreme ruler and as a monarch and the emperor, He has the authority to rule a kingdom forever. To completely understand the biblical concept or idea of the kingdom, one must identify that it contains several ideas and thoughts: the right to govern, the kingdom in which the authority of ruling is exercised, and the actuality of that authority being exercised. The Kingdom of God is related to the Church in its teachings, but the two terms are not synonymous or identical. The kingdom of God is a much wider phenomenon As it has been discussed earlier, there has been a lot of differentiation in the thoughts of people concerning the relationship between the two. The concept is widely misunderstood and misinterpreted.[5] Christians often believe thatboth these things are one, and the same things but this is not so. In reality, the Kingdom of God is of extreme importance, and very different from the concept of the Church. Jesus demonstrated about the Kingdoms Gospel The main intent of the Jesus Christ was only to establish and spread the awareness of the Kingdom of God and its importance in the lives of people. It is also mentioned in the gospels that the Jesus was continually spreading about the awareness of the concept of kingdom of God. A number of followers were also sent out to announce or to indicate clearly about the Gospels to the people. In comparison, the gospels only enumerated the term Church twice.[6] And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.Matthew 4:23 One just needs to understand that there is a supreme power and that is God. He is the ruler rom the inception and the governance of Him is eternal.[7] The LORD is king forever and ever. (Psalm 10:16) Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness. (Psalm 45:6) All are here to seek Gods kingdom, not the Church Instead of establishing and spreading the doctrine of the Kingdom of God, the main focus of Christians became the construction of more, and more of Churches. It became the place of getaway for individuals, from the humanity, and their world. It surely have assisted and nurtured Christians lives, but for the Earth and the world, it appeared as an unessential, weak and irrelevant institute.[8] But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33). Instead of being a ground for retreat and shelter, the church must be a reinforcement, encouragement and the ground of training for the kingdom of God.[9] Beginning of the Kingdom of Satan He has been authorized to different individuals, groups, and families in the society. When the realm of delegated authority is governed according to his wish and will, it begins to be a part of the kingdom and in contrary to this, it does not consider the part of the kingdom. God aims to expand his kingdom in each, and every aspect of the life of humans.[10]This phenomenon happens in two ways. The first one is that the people shall first take birth into the sphere of the kingdom. One of the sayings of Jesus constitutes that, Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:5). The rebirth of individuals through repentance, and trust in the Christ. It also makes them the citizen and the part of the Kingdom. Another way of this expansion is that the Christians shall bring the various facets of the lives into the authority of the God. They can do so in the spheres, and regions where they are having the key authority. Anything outside the governance and will of the God becomes the segment of the territory of gloom and darkness which is governed and ruled by Satan. Its monarchy is characterized by collision, struggle, and conflict. Satan is basically a destructor and a liar.As there is a lot of difference between the two, naturally there will be a conflict between the two kingdoms. The one and the only way to get away from this is to have faith and belief in Jesus Christ.[11] As it is discussed above, the kingdom of God oralso called as the kingdom of heaven, is a comprehensive concept. Therefore, the kingdoms gospel is also wider than the gospel of the Church, which says about the personal salvation. One must have a vision and understanding of concepts of both the terms, then only he/she can understand the meanings of the proclamation made by Jesus. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10). Jones said in one of his statements: The Christian Church, while it holds within itself the best life of the Kingdom, is not the kingdom of God.[12] The Church is only one region or part of the authority within the Gods kingdom. It is made just to establish the kingdom of God. Conclusion According to Jesuss description, three things are required to befall to Gods kingdom, and those are knowledge, commitment, and absolute and true devotion to the world of God over and above anything else. Like the germ or the seed that falls on the rough ground cannot reproduce, a man who does not comprehend the World and the commandments will sink into the attraction of destructive and lose vision of Gods kingdom.[13] Once a follower asked Jesus, Who is the greatest, and the noble person in the Gods kingdom? He put a kid in front of them and replied, unless you are born again and become a kid, one will not enter the heavens or Gods kingdom as this is the most pious state of a human being from where he starts to understand the world and his doings and actions make him be a part of the Kingdom of God.[14] References Adams, George. The pursuit of happiness Essay Example For Students

The pursuit of happiness Essay Love is perhaps the most actively sought moral objective of ones life. And though marriage is often thought to be the logical consequence of love, it is Oscar Wildes contention in his satire, The Importance of Being Earnest, that love begets bliss and marriage thwarts this course of bliss. Algernon Moncrieff spends very little time falling in love and the rest of the time striving toward engagement. Wilde demonstrates through him that once one becomes intent upon achieving a goal, the individuals motivation becomes a matter of action rather than truth. Algernon is no longer driven by a moral objective; instead, he becomes intent upon achieving a societal standard. We will write a custom essay on The pursuit of happiness specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The truth is rarely pure, and never simple (35). Love is truth. Marriage results in the systematic complication of love. Algernon becomes disillusioned in the process of seeking truth. In defining Algernons preconceived notion of marriage and then describing the subsequent earnest pursuit of engagement, Wilde achieves a consequential climax that satirizes marriage. Algernon is a pompous man of seemingly strong, albeit unconventional, convictions. Wilde uses him for the sole purpose of mocking the sanctimonious institution of marriage. In the beginning of the play, Algernon considers Jacks intent to propose to Gwendolen to be business, not pleasure (30). Yet eventually Algernon also resolves to propose to Cicely, discrediting his own established belief: I really dont see anything romantic in proposing. It is very romantic to be in love. But there is nothing romantic about a definite proposal. Why, one may be accepted. One usually is, I believe. Then the excitement is all over. The very essence of romance is uncertainty (30). Algernon clearly, at one point, sees marriage as a means to an end. Once he meets Cecily, however, the idea of maintaining truth above reality is hard to rationalize; he wants only to move forward in the proper manner established by society. Upon initially hearing about Cicely, Algernon is intrigued. She is no more than a name on a cigarette case. After intense probing, Jack discloses Cicelys identity. Algernon then tells Jack, I would rather like to see Cicely (51). She suddenly becomes more of a name to Algernon, and he begins to pursue her as more than a person; she becomes his moral objective. When Jack reveals to Gwendolen his address in the country, Algernon secretly writes the address on his shirt-cuff (53) in hopes of going to meet Cicely. Shortly after his first encounter with her, he reveals to Jack, I am in love with Cicely, and that is everything (71). This newfound love is his truth. He admits to her, Cicely, ever since I first looked upon your wonderful and incomparable beauty, I have dared to love you wildly, passionately, devotedly, hopelessly (73). Yet Algernon quickly abandons the truth imbedded in love, his moral objective, and instead opts for convention. I dont care for anybody in the whole world but you. I love you, Cecily. You will marry me, wont you? (74). The irony displayed through Algernons self-contradiction is the pivotal progression that eventually results in Wildes intended resolution of the play Algernon reveals he simply wanted to be engaged to Cecily (88) to Jack, who quickly dismisses him. There is certainly no chance of your marrying Miss Cardew (88). It is this obstacle, and its respective denouement, which outlines the basis of Wildes thematic emphasis. Prospective marriage, by means of engagement, serves not only as an obstacle but also a resolution. In Algernons view, Cecily is the sweetest, dearest, prettiest girl in the whole world. And he doesnt care twopence about social possibilities (98). .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f , .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .postImageUrl , .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f , .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:hover , .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:visited , .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:active { border:0!important; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:active , .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1f3f861e1e9d40f2e1586b6792ba716f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Art Of Procrastination Essay In actuality, however, it is the promise of social possibilities that motivate him to an end. For, it is his eventual conformity to societal norms that destroys the moral truth he once held dear. By the time Wilde establishes definite engagement for the couple, Algernon and Cicely embrace, and the play ends. As Algernon said in Act 1, The excitement is all over (30). This anti-passionate climax epitomizes Wildes sardonic wit, humoring a societal institution. Algernon achieves what he believes he wants, but loses his motivation in the process. Marriage, at one point, seemed to be very problematic to Algernon. His .
